Jeanie McCorquodale Becomes LEED Accredited

FHA Architects is pleased to announce that Jeanie McCorquodale has become LEED Accredited. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) are building industry professionals who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building and the LEED Green Building Rating System™.

Jeanie believes it is every person’s responsibility to be aware of their impact on the environment and make efforts to promote sustainable practices. LEED accreditation is great way to become more educated on the large scope of issues regarding the effects of our built environment, and it provides useful tools and strategies to lessen those negative effects. The LEED accreditation process has provided Jeanie with knowledge and resources to recognize opportunities in all future projects to implement environmentally-conscious methodologies and promote responsible design.

FHA Architects Welcomes McCorquodale and Lewis

FHA Architects welcomes two new intern architects; Jeanie McCorquodale and Shane Lewis, to the firm. Jeanie brings 2 years of experience in design development, construction documentation, interior and sustainable design for commercial, retail and hospitality projects for firms in Austin, New York and Sydney. She is currently working toward becoming LEED accredited and accruing her IDP credits in order to take her ARE exams.

Shane comes to FHA Architects with 8 years of experience in project management and the various stages of project development for commercial, residential, religious and institutional projects. He is currently taking his ARE exams and plans to become LEED Accredited in the near future.

Erin Froschheiser and Adriana Mahoney are LEED Accredited.

LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) are building industry professionals who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building and the LEED Green Building Rating System™.

By becoming LEED accredited, Erin and Adriana can apply their knowledge of energy efficient and environmentally friendly techniques to future and current client projects. Implementing green alternatives saves money in energy costs as well as employee wellness. Adriana explains, “Most of the people think that in order to apply green technologies you need to spend a lot of money on equipment but just simple things like opening the windows to provide outdoor air or providing open/exterior views to employees is proven to increase their productivity and improve health.”

For both Adriana and Erin green is not a choice they make for their career but also for their life. They recycle as much as possible at home, use programmable thermostats, replace regular light bulbs to CFL, and use an air filter with a high MERV.

Chipotle’s Rob Levinson Visits FHA Architects

Rob Levinson, Design Manager at Chipotle Mexican Grill visited FHA Architects in Omaha recently. He spent the day visiting local Chipotle’s, meeting our staff and going over the various aspects of work we do with Chipotle.

While visiting, Rob caught a Nebraska football game in Lincoln and got a taste of downtown Omaha’s Old Market.

The FHA Architects staff enjoyed Rob’s visit and are looking forward to seeing him again.

FHA Architects Goes Green

FHA Architects, an Omaha based architecture firm specializing in foodservice design and franchise development, has joined the United States Green Building Council to do its part in incorporating Green Building practices into future projects. By the end of the year, six of FHA Architects’ employees will be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited. LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully administer the LEED certification process, and who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices, principles and the LEED Rating System.

With the world’s population being estimated at over 9 billion by 2050, and the strain it will put on the world’s natural resources, FHA Architects will be implementing sustainable building practices, and green office policies that encourage employees to “live green” at work and at home. Simple steps can make a huge difference; for every ton of office paper that is recycled 7,000 gallons of water and 380 gallons of oil are saved. Also, it saves enough electricity to power an average house for six months. By incorporating sustainable building practices such as, using rapidly renewable resources, water conservation, reducing heat island effects, reducing light pollution, and reducing energy consumption by using high efficiency HVAC and Kitchen Equipment, as well as sorting and recycling construction debris into future projects, FHA Architects plans to do its part in conserving the earth’s natural resources.

Congratulations to Erin Froschheiser

All of us at FHA Architects would like to congratulate Erin Froschheiser on passing the Architect Registration Examination. She is now officially an Architect. Erin is eligible for NCARB certification and plans to get licensed in Iowa, Colorado and Nebraska to start, then will proceed with the rest of the Midwest. Erin also plans to take the LEED exam this fall.

She conducts site assessments, monitors project schedules and follows up with clients, consultants and suppliers. Laura also coordinates requirements with landlords, contractors and municipal officials.
